An update on all the things!

Hiya,

It’s been about two years since I sent an email to this list. 👀

In case you don’t remember—I write about healing trauma and attachment, personal growth, and self-liberation on Joy Ninja. My most-read post is my journey healing from Fearful-Avoidant attachment.

This used to just be the “Hey, I wrote a blog post” list. Going forward it will include updates on what I’m making, plus anything I think might fuel your quest for joy, freedom, and building an awesome life on your own terms. And unicorn gifs, obv. 😁

So, here is what is going on in the Joy Ninja Extended Universe...

1. I started a secret society

Ok, it’s not really secret. 😆 It’s called Self-Liberation Society and it’s a cozy online space for neurodivergent folks to heal, grow, and make their life awesome. I wanted a space just for us, because growth requires safety, and safety requires unmasking.

2. I made some freebies!

I started a password-protected ebook library for my email subscribers.

Here’s what’s in there so far:

  • How to Stop Being Cruel to Yourself – Disarm & befriend your inner critic with parts work + NVC-style self-empathy.
  • Liberate Your Weird – reframes to help us “weirdos” with not just self-acceptance but owning our own value.
  • Unstuck – a guided journey to working with resistance in a non-forceful way.

3. I expanded some of my favorite posts

4. I added new content

I added some FAQs on autistic burnout and a long article about how to decondition yourself from capitalist programming and stop treating yourself like a machine.

5. I’ve been sharing my internal process on Substack

On Sparkly Dark, you can follow along as I apply self-liberation principles to my daily life, like radical self-permission, intrinsic motivation, parts work, and working through fear. Lately I’ve written about my fear of leadership, building SLS, and the Outsider archetype.

6. Astrology became a new obsession

Last year I created AstroLiberation, where you can dive into your natal chart as a map of your karma and life lessons. ✨ (Relatedly, I wrote a post about my journey to reconcile rationality and magic.)

Phew. I definitely need to email more often cause that was ridiculously long. 😆

Are you still on Facebook? We can be friends. I am still active there as I join about 20 groups for every new obsession. 😂

How are you? What’s new? Any weird rabbit holes have you fallen down lately?

Love,

Emma

Your pacing is OK

Hi there, So, last month I was SUPER GUNG HO about growing my audience and being a regular-newsletter-writing MASTER. I did a bunch of internal work and then JUMPED THE FUCK IN! Aaaaaaand then I completely lost interest and just wanted to be left alone to code. For weeks. 😆 What I’ve learned about myself and my meandering motivation over many years is: Don’t fight it. These shifts in my motivational moods are just the way my brain works. Wanting to be super-social will be followed by wanting...

Reminder: You're awesome, actually

Hi there, I’m fired up lately to have more impact, grow my audience—be more “out there” in the world. And it’s scaring the hell out of me. 😅 But luckily I have lots of tools now to work with fear—I’ve been detailing this journey over on Sparkly Dark (my Substack) and working through it in my community. What I’ve been (over?) thinking: how do I want to use this newsletter list? What I realized today is: I want my emails to you to be little reminders that you’re awesome, actually. That you...
